Middletown is our home market and where most of our work is. We are based at 40 Mulberry St, which covers both the 10940 and 10941 ZIP codes. Most jobs in the city are a short drive. A return visit for a follow-up question is not a problem.

Working one area consistently helps in this trade. The housing here runs from older homes near downtown, with masonry stacks and clay tile flues, through to newer construction with factory-built fireplaces and metal chimneys. A few of the oldest chimneys were built before lining was standard practice.

The failures follow our climate. Freeze-thaw spalling. Soaked crowns. Rusted caps. Mortar joints washed out by water. Seeing the same combinations over and over is what lets us spot the early stage of a problem instead of the late one.

Each town has its own page, because the chimneys really do differ. The historic masonry in Goshen is a different job from the factory-built metal systems in Scotchtown. The exposed high ground at Otisville is harder on a chimney than the valley floor.

A few details make the call much shorter. What is the appliance? An open fireplace, an insert, a wood stove or a gas appliance. How often do you use it? When was it last swept, if you know?

Most useful of all is the symptom. Smoke coming into the room. A smell. A stain on the ceiling. Debris in the firebox. From there we can usually tell you what the visit should cover, what it costs and how long it takes.
